Waugh's Well - geograph.org.uk - 123742
Waugh’s Well. This monument was originally built on the site of a spring in 1866 to honour Rochdale-born Edwin Waugh (1817-1890), one of Lancashire’s finest poets. It was rebuilt in 1966 in memory of Ward Ogden, a local naturalist and rambler. It makes for a fine contemplative viewpoint and resting place on the Rossendale Way.

I was walking up at Waugh’s Well on Wednesday, 18th April 2018 and rather sadly noticed that the head relief sculpture of EW has been removed from the well wall. Does anyone know what’s happened to EW’s head?

    1. Hi Richard,

Thanks for the link to the Rochdale Online article re: Waugh’s Well and the missing/damaged head of EW. It’s comforting to know that it’s been taken away for repair and will, hopefully, soon be back on the wall. Btw I enjoyed your photos. Cheers.

      1. Good news posted by the Rossendale Harriers Twitter account, the monument at Waugh’s Well has been repaired.
